UPDATE: One person arrested, Hwy 101 reopen in Santa Maria following shooting investigation

UPDATE (10:50 p.m.)- All lanes of Highway 101 in Santa Maria are back open following a shooting investigation.

The California Highway Patrol says 33-year-old Chappinette Lelani Ernia K Martin of Los Angeles is now in custody after she allegedly shot at multiple cars on the highway Monday evening.

Authorities say when they approached Martin's car parked on the side of the 101, she said her car was broken down and was waiting for help.

Officers noticed bullet casings around the vehicle and detained Martin, later retrieving a loaded handgun from the vehicle.

Officers say she allegedly shot three to four cars, injuring one person in the arm.

Martin was arrested for assault with a firearm.

UPDATE (9:03 p.m.) - California Highway Patrol says a shooting investigation is underway following reports of a shooter driving southbound on Highway 101 in Santa Maria.

Officers say one person was shot in the arm, and three to four cars were shot by the suspect.

CHP arrested a female with a handgun, and say they're searching for bullets and shell casings. Only one lane of the highway is open.

ORIGINAL STORY: Southbound Highway 101 at Donovan Road in Santa Maria was closed to traffic Monday evening.

Caltrans issued a SIG Alert to warn drivers, saying the closure was the result of "police activity in the area."

Highway 135/Broadway is suggested as a detour to get around the closure.

The Santa Maria Police Department told KSBY News its officers are assisting the California Highway Patrol with a shooting investigation. There are reports of injuries.

Police said officers were searching for a suspect.
