Woman dies after jumping off Madonna Rd. overpass in San Luis Obispo

UPDATE (12:27 p.m.) - San Luis Obispo police say a woman died Friday after jumping off the Madonna Rd. overpass.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the death appears to be a suicide.

Southbound Highway 101 was backed up through San Luis Obispo as a result of the investigation.

Caltrans said the middle lane and right lane of the highway at Madonna Rd. were closed to traffic and motorists should also expect congestion on nearby surface streets, including Madonna and Higuera St.

UPDATE (11:49 a.m.) - The California Highway Patrol confirms that a person died after apparently jumping off the Madonna Rd. overpass Friday morning.

(11:35 a.m.) - The southbound fast lane of Highway 101 was closed at Madonna Rd. in San Luis Obispo Friday morning after someone jumped off the overpass, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities were on scene as of 11:20 a.m. and traffic was backed up through San Luis Obispo.

No other information was immediately available. KSBY News has a crew headed to the scene and will provide updates as they become available.
