UPDATE (6:40 p.m.) - Santa Maria police say a 38-year-old man was taken to the hospital Monday after being stabbed.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 2:20 p.m. in the 500 block of S. McClelland Street.
Police say the stabbing was the result of a verbal altercation between two men.
A 20-year-old man was detained at the scene but later released.
Police say they are continuing to investigate the incident and are not releasing any further information at this time.
The man who was stabbed reportedly suffered non-life threatening injuries.
