Steve Campbell has officially been named the new principal at Santa Maria High School.

Campbell had been acting as interim principal since April 2019 when then-principal Joe Domingues went on extended leave. Domingues officially resigned in September, citing personal health matters.

The Santa Maria Joint Union High School District Board of Education approved Campbell for the job at the district's board meeting Tuesday night. He was reportedly among 15 candidates from across California.

Campbell started at the high school in 2013 as assistant principal.

"I am extremely excited and honored to have the opportunity to assure the good things that we have established here at SMHS continue as planned,'' Campbell said. "We have so many things going in the right direction, I am anxious to get to work in taking the school to the highest level."
