UPDATE - A man from Nevada was arrested Wednesday after Santa Barbara County Sheriff's officials say he attacked a person at a home in Montecito and then barricaded himself inside the house.
Sheriff's officials say deputies responded to a call of a possible home invasion robbery in the 1000 block of Fairway Road at about 4:30 p.m. When they arrived at the scene, they found a female assault victim outside the residence with severe injuries. She was taken to an area hospital to be treated for her injuries.
The suspect was reportedly still inside the house and officials say he had barricaded himself in an upstairs restroom. They say deputies attempted to convince the suspect to exit the bathroom, but he tried to escape through a second-story window and was apprehended when he jumped to the ground.
The suspect, identified as Russell Maxwell Phay, 43, was arrested on suspicion of obstruction, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, battery with serious bodily injury, and kidnapping.
Investigators say there is no evidence at this time that the victim and suspect knew each other.
