UPDATE (3:11) - The City of Atascadero says the package did not contain an explosive device and the scene has been cleared.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Atascadero post office is closed after a suspicious package was discovered Thursday morning.
The City of Atascadero says police were notified by the USPS at about 11:22 a.m.
After assessing the package, City officials say police evacuated the post office and out of an “abundance of caution and concern,” the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Bomb Task Force was requested at the scene to analyze the package.
The post office, located at 9800 El Camino Real, is closed until further notice.
