Atascadero police say they've arrested a teen in connection with a vehicle pursuit and crash that happened on Sunday.

Police say they tried to check on a vehicle in the Paloma Creek Park parking lot just after 11 p.m. on Sunday, when the driver fled, prompting the pursuit.

The car crashed into a light pole at the intersection of El Camino Real and Santa Rosa Road, and police say the driver ran off toward the Motel 6, carrying what looked like a rifle.

Several other juveniles that were in the car were reportedly detained.

Police searched the area but were unable to find the driver.

During the investigation that followed, police say they were able to identify the 17-year-old suspect, and with the help of the San Luis Obispo County Probation Department and the Paso Robles Police Department, located and arrested the teen in Paso Robles on Tuesday.

Police say they were unable to find the weapon believed to be involved in Sunday night's chase.

The teen was reportedly booked into San Luis Obispo County Juvenile Services on charges of felony evading arrest, misdemeanor resisting arrest, misdemeanor hit and run, and violation of probation.

Police say they are continuing to investigate and ask anyone with additional information about this case to call the Atascadero Police Department at (805) 461-5051 or Crime Stoppers at (805) 549-STOP.
