A 16-year-old girl was cited early Wednesday morning after California Highway Patrol officers say she was going nearly double the speed limit on Highway 101 in Carpinteria.

Officers say the girl had a provisional license and was with her 16-year-old sister when she was stopped sometime after midnight in the northbound lanes just south of Bailard Avenue.

The teen was reportedly going 126 mph in an Audi TT.

CHP says both girls were released to their parents “who weren’t very happy,” according to CHP.

The driver was cited for exceeding 100 mph and disobeying the terms of her provisional license.
