Templeton Park will be closed and fenced off on the 4th of July.

The San Luis Obispo County Parks and Recreation Department is enforcing the closure in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19 ahead of the holiday weekend.

Templeton Park is the only park with a tradition of a large informal gathering on July 4 for legal fireworks use.

Signs are posted around the park with information regarding the closure.

The Parks and Recreation Department initially planned to only close the park on the evening of July 4. Due to a spike in the number of cases statewide and locally, the park will now close July 3 at 5:00 p.m. and reopen July 5 at 7:00 a.m.

More information about restrictions within San Luis Obispo County Parks can be found here.
