Three men accused in a gang-related assault in downtown San Luis Obispo are headed to trial after a judge ruled there is enough evidence to proceed on all charges.
District Attorney Dan Dow said a judge found sufficient evidence for Alex Lopez-Ramirez, Miguel Mendez, and Brian Ramirez-Lopez to answer to all charges connected to the October 2024 attack near Hotel Cerro.
Prosecutors say the three defendants allegedly stomped, kicked, and punched the victim, continuing the assault even after the victim was unconscious in the street. Investigators say the attack was captured on video.
Authorities identified the suspects as members of a Santa Maria criminal street gang. The victim was allegedly tied to a rival gang.
Each defendant faces charges of assault likely to produce great bodily injury, along with gang-related allegations.
All three defendants are currently out of custody. They are scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court on September 17.
