A tourist from out of town died after being hit by a car in San Luis Obispo Tuesday night, according to police.

San Luis Obispo police say it happened shortly before 9:30 p.m. along the 200 block of Madonna Road while the pedestrian was crossing the street.

The 62-year-old woman was unconscious and unresponsive when first responders arrived on scene, according to police, who say she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police say the 30-year-old driver was evaluated for DUI but it was determined drugs or alcohol were not factors in the collision and no arrests were made.

Police say it doesn't appear the pedestrian was in a crosswalk at the time.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the investigating officer at (805) 594-8060.
