Traffic was at a near standstill along Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo Friday afternoon.
A three-vehicle crash was reported at about 3:12 p.m. in the southbound lanes near the South Higuera Street offramp.
Traffic was reportedly stopped at Los Osos Valley Road and vehicles were said to be using the center divider to get through.
Shortly after 3 p.m., navigation systems were estimating the commute from San Luis Obispo to Santa Maria to take about an hour.
By 4 p.m., traffic appeared to be moving a little faster out of San Luis Obispo.
The California Highway Patrol says the slowdown is likely linked to Friday traffic and it being the last weekend before many head back to school.
