The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is launching recruitment efforts to fill more than 6,000 Transportation Security Officer (TSO) positions at nearly 430 airports across the United States by summer 2021.

On the Central Coast, TSA is looking to fill positions at airports in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo.

"TSOs are a critical first-line defense in securing our nation's commercial air transportation system," said Melanie Harvey, acting executive assistant administrator for TSA's Security Operations.

According to a news release from the TSA, benefits for the job include paid training, annual and sick leave, health care for full- and part-time employees and a retirement plan.

Starting pay is $18.85 per hour with opportunities for pay increases after six months, according to the release.
