Two hikers needed rescuing after suffering from heat illness while at the Los Padres National Forest Saturday afternoon.
The Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to reports of a sick hiker around 3:20 p.m. in the area of East Camino Cielo and the Cold Springs Trail.
Two engines and Copter 4 responded to the area.
A firefighter paramedic was lowered down from the helicopter to evaluate the patients and determined one hiker needed immediate medical attention due to heat illness, according to officials.
That patient was hoisted up and airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for further treatment.
The second hiker also started feeling sick and was transported to a hospital by ground ambulance.
Fire officials said two dogs were also found on scene, but it is their conditions are unclear.
During this heatwave, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department wants to remind people to limit time spent outdoors and drink lots of water.
