Firefighters make quick progress on homeless encampment fire in San Luis Obispo

(UPDATE: 5:30 p.m.) - Fire officals say a 20x20-foot spot burned.

Fire officials say they were able to make quick access and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby mobile homes and trailers.

The fire was started in a homeless encampment. The cause is under investigation.

Firefighters are responding to reports of a vegetation fire in San Luis Obispo Monday afternoon.

San Luis Obispo City firefighters were called to the 200 block of Elks Lane just after 4:30 p.m.

A short time later, fire officials say crews were accessing the fire estimated to be 15x15-feet in size.

No other information was immediately available.
