Woman hospitalized with major injuries after vehicle, motorcycle crash on Highway 101 near Buellton

UPDATE (2:21 p.m.) — A woman involved in the motorcycle and vehicle crash on Highway 101 northbound in Buellton is hospitalized with critical injuries, according to Santa Barbara County Fire Department Captain Daniel Bertucelli.

Officials said two engines, one battalion chief and an ambulance responded to reports of a crash near Jonata Park Road after 12 p.m.

When crews arrived, they found a motorcyclist lying on the road with major injuries, according to Bertucelli. It is unclear what happened to the driver of the passenger vehicle.

Crews said medics provided life-saving treatment to the motorcyclist immediately. Afterward, CALSTAR flew her to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where she is currently hospitalized.

Officials described the motorcyclist as a woman in her 30s.

CHP is investigating the cause of the crash.

ORIGINAL STORY (12:57 p.m.) — A vehicle and motorcycle crash is causing traffic delays on Highway 101 northbound near the Jonata Park Road exit in Buellton Saturday afternoon.

According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, officers received initial reports of a collision between a motorcycle and a car at about 12 p.m.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy debris in the slow lane near the Jonata Park Road exit, said CHP officials.

At this time, all lanes of Highway 101 southbound are open and only the leftmost northbound lane is open, according to CHP's Traffic Incident Information website.

It is unclear how many people were involved and the extent of their injuries, if any.

KSBY News has reached out to CHP Buellton dispatchers who confirmed the crash but say they are awaiting further information as crews are still on their way to the incident.
