UPDATE(10:10 p.m.): Firefighters have extricated the driver of a vehicle that went off the side of Highway 101 near Gaviota.
Fire officials say a rope system was used to bring the male driver up to the roadside.
He suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Firefighters remained at the sight of the incident to remove the vehicle from the creek.
