A candelight vigil is planned Thursday evening in Santa Maria to recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
People are invited to begin gathering at City Hall starting at 5 p.m. The event starts at 6 p.m. with a memorial walk from City Hall to Santa Maria High School. The vigil begins at 6:30 p.m. at the high school's Ethel Pope Auditorium.
Those in attendance will hear from a survivor of domestic violence and other speakers. The keynote speech will be delivered by Sylvia Barnard, the Executive Director of Good Samaritan Shelter.
Another vigil is planned for next Thursday, Oct. 24 in Santa Barbara.
It's scheduled to begin with a community resource fair from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Paseo Nuevo shopping center. The vigil begins at 6 p.m., followed by a memorial walk at 6:30.
