Warming centers remain open Thursday night as storm continues

The Warming Center at 40 Prado in San Luis Obispo will be open again Thursday night because of the continuing rainfall.

Client check-in is from 7-9 p.m. Overnight guests will be provided a dry place to sleep and a hot meal.

Pets are allowed and smoking is allowed in the designated smoking area.

The warming center closes at 6 a.m.

The facility is currently accepting donations of the following items:

  • Sleeping bags and blankets
  • Large trash bags
  • Disposable plates, bowls, cups, and utensils
  • Coffee, tea, creamer, sugar
  • Breakfast bars
  • Instant Noodle/Cup of Noodles
  • Large backpacks
  • New socks and warm gloves
  • Rain gear, ponchos, and umbrellas

Donations can be dropped off at 40 Prado Road.

The warming center is opened when the temperature drops to 38 degrees and/or there is a 50% or greater chance of rain.

The South County Warming Center located at the South County Regional Center in Arroyo Grande will also be open on both Thursday and Friday nights. Hours are between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Transportation is available from multiple locations in the Five Cities area. Donations of new items are also being accepted. A newly opened winter emergency shelter operated by the El Camino Homeless Organization (ECHO) is open nightly through March 31 in Atascadero. Those interested in staying overnight should visit ECHO at 6370 Atascadero Ave. to receive dinner and be placed on the emergency shelter list. More information about ECHO's services is available on the organization's website or by calling (805) 462-3663.

Wanted to send a heads up that there is incorrect info about ECHO’s Emergency Winter Shelter. The location you have listed is where the shelter is but anyone interested needs to come to ECHO Atascadero 6370 Atascadero Ave. in Atascadero. They can access dinner and get on the emergency shelter list. The Emergency Shelter is within walking distance from ECHO and is open from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. People coming straight to the emergency shelter will not be able to stay.

In Santa Barbara County, Freedom Warming Centers will be open from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday night at Peace Lutheran Church in Lompoc, the Salvation Army in Santa Maria, the Veterans Memorial Building in Santa Barbara, and the Carpinteria Community Church.
