Two people were injured after being hit by a pickup truck in the parking lot of Shoreline Inn on Ocean Ave. in Cayucos Saturday evening.
The California Highway Patrol says a 79-year-old man from Fresno was backing into a parking spot around 5:30 p.m. when his foot slipped off the brake and onto the gas pedal.
The force caused the truck to accelerate, hitting two people on a picnic bench, throwing them to the ground, according to CHP.
The pedestrians, identified as a 71-year-old woman from Fresno and 66-year-old woman from Lemoore, suffered reported major injuries and were taken to the hospital. An update on their conditions was not immediately available.
The driver, who was in the area for a car show, was uninjured, officers say, adding that drugs or alcohol were not factors in the crash.
