Woods Humane Society hosted a Community Cat Spay Day Thurdsay in Atascadero to spay and neuter cats.

The shelter's low cost spay and neuter day provided surgeries for 94 community cats along with vaccinations and general veterinary treatments.

The shelter says a community cat is one who is not owned and lives in a colony with other stray cats.

The cats that received surgeries were also "altered" by removing a small portion of one ear in a process called "ear tipping." Veterinarians say this process helps community members identify spayed and neutered cats.

The shelter hosts Community Cat Spay and Neuter Day in an effort to reduce companion animal overpopulation.

Woods Humane Society is a privately funded, non-profit, animal sheltering and welfare organization with clinics in San Luis Obispo and Atascadero.
