A Santee man is facing attempted murder charges after investigators say he tried to choke a woman in the San Simeon area overnight.

Early Friday morning, a 911 call was made from the call box from Elephant Seals Lookout, according to a CHP press release. The San Luis Obispo Communications Center dispatched a call that a man had reported that he was experiencing car problems.

Two CHP officers arrived on scene to find a vehicle partially blocking the southbound lane. When officers approached the Toyota Tacoma, they say they found a man straddling a woman in the passenger seat and "violently choking her."

Officers say they were unable to get inside the truck and had to shatter the window and taze the suspect, identified as Cory Lowell Dollar, 31, to take him into custody.

The victim had ligature marks around her neck, stab wounds to her chest and large contusions to her head, according to CHP. Officers add that a knife was found inside the truck.

Dollar was checked out at the hospital before being booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail. Bail is set at $500,000.

The incident remains under investigation.
