UNION, N.J. – Bed Bath & Beyond plans to close 40 stores in the United States this year.
Spokesperson Jessica Joyce said in a statement Thursday that the company is closing the stores that no longer meet the standards that its customers expect.
The stores being shuttered are located in 19 states and the District of Columbia.
“We’re continually evolving to serve our loyal Bed Bath & Beyond customers better – whether they come to us at one of our 900+ stores or are one of the millions who shop with us online each year,” wrote Joyce.
Meanwhile, the company says it has given more than 150 of its most popular stores a multi-million-dollar update and it’s continuing to invest in its digital platform.
