SAN DIEGO — He was known for wearing goggles on the basketball court, and now, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is known for gifting them off the court.

The NBA's all-time leading scorer donated 900 pairs of safety goggles to health care workers at Scripps Health on Monday.

"He said he wants to thank all of the doctors, nurses and medical professionals for all they're doing to help fight the coronavirus," a press release from Scripps Health said.

Goggles, in addition to masks, gloves, and gowns, have been in demand among hospitals as coronavirus cases rise in San Diego County.

"Kareem good-naturedly added that he hopes health care providers look as good wearing the goggles as he did when he played, "the release said.

Donations of personal protection equipment can be made to local hospitals here.
