The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday that an additional 23 inmates at Santa Barbara County Jail and six Sheriff's Office personnel have tested positive for COVID-19.

Four of the 23 inmate cases were found during intake screening and the other 19 are part of an outbreak in one of the housing units within the main jail.

All COVID-19 positive inmates are either housed in negative pressure housing areas or housed separately from the general population, according to the release.

All of the affected housing areas are being quarantined and closely monitored by medical staff. Currently, there are 30 active cases in the main jail.

The new cases bring the total number of inmates testing positive to 126. A total of 88 sheriff's office employees have tested positive for COVID-19 during the pandemic.
