Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies have identified the person who posted a video on TikTok threatening a shooting at Orcutt Academy High School. Officials say they determined the juvenile responsible did not intend to carry out the threat.
On Friday, August 21, at approximately 5:20 p.m., administrators at Orcutt Academy High School contacted the Sheriff's Office to report a threatening post on TikTok. Deputies discovered that a TikTok account posted a threat saying a shooting would take place at the high school on Monday, August 24.
During an investigation, deputies identified and located a boy in the Orcutt area as the source of the post. After deputies contacted him and his parents, they determined that he did not have the means to carry out the threat.
Sheriff's officials say the case will be forwarded to Santa Barbara County Juvenile Probation to consider if criminal charges will be filed.
The agency is encouraging students and community members to report any threatening posts online to law enforcement.
