Santa Barbara County Sheriff's officials were called to Orcutt Academy High School on Wednesday morning to investigate the discovery of a suspicious package.
According to a Facebook post by Orcutt Union School District Superintendent Holly Edds, the school's custodian found an item near the gym that he "suspected could have explosive contents" and contacted the sheriff's office.
The sheriff's bomb squad responded and the section of Pinal Avenue next to the gym was closed to the public for the investigation.
Edds said the bomb squad inspected the package and determined that it was not explosive. The scene was cleared by 11:25 a.m.
No classes were in session on Wednesday because the school is currently on Spring Break.
