Cyclists taking part in the annual "Project Hero California challenge" bike ride are on their way through the Central Coast.

More than 50 military veterans, first responders, and their supporters are cycling from Santa Cruz to Santa Barbara.

The ride benefits veterans and first responders with PTSD and other injuries.

“Feeling healthier, making that accomplishment, feeling like you're doing something with your life and making a difference, helping others as well as helping yourself heal, it's a mind body spirit thing. It's hope, recovery, resilience is what we go by,” said Jeff Larson, Project Hero hub coordinator.

They'll spend the night in Pismo Beach Wednesday night.

Thursday, they'll meet up with the Oceano Bike Posse, a group of young cyclists from Oceano Elementary School.

The ‘Project Hero’ riders are scheduled to complete the more than 300 mile journey in Santa Barbara on Friday.
