Bus riders in Santa Barbara will see changes to their routes starting on Monday.
The Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District says it is cutting bus services by nearly 4% due to a budget deficit. Officials blame the shortfall on changes from the 2020 census, which caused the loss of 30% of its federal operating funds.
The transit district faces a $5 million shortfall for the upcoming fiscal year. According to officials with MTD, federal pandemic relief money will cover the gap for now.
