UPDATE (1:09 p.m.) - A driver, who police say was involved in a deadly collision involving a bicyclist in Santa Barbara over the weekend, is now facing DUI-related charges.

Santa Barbara police responded to reports of the collision along the 1900 block of State Street Sunday at around 9:37 p.m.

Authorities say they believe Christina Almada, 36, of Santa Barbara was heading southbound on the road when the bicyclist “may have veered or turned in front of her vehicle.”

First responders performed life-saving measures on the bicyclist, whose name has not yet been released, but they were pronounced dead at the scene.

The police department’s Critical Accident Reconstruction Team was called out to assist with the investigation, which closed the road into the overnight hours.

“During their investigation, investigators noticed that Almada was displaying symptoms of alcohol intoxication,” police said in a press release.

Almada was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence causing injury and driving without a license.

She was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail with bail set at $100,000.
