California airports are getting nearly $109 million in new federal funding, with a major share headed to the Central Coast for runway, taxiway and terminal improvements.
Among the biggest local awards are $9.18 million for Santa Barbara Municipal Airport, $5.68 million for Santa Maria Public Airport, and $3.9 million for Paso Robles Municipal Airport.
At Santa Barbara, the federal money will fund resurfacing, rehabilitation and reconstruction of portions of Taxiways A5, A3, E and A2 projects designed to improve the airport’s long-term safety and reliability.
Santa Maria is receiving $5.68 million for the first phase of a major taxiway rehabilitation project, including work on approximately 1,400 feet of pavement.
The investment will help maintain critical airfield infrastructure at one of the Central Coast’s key regional airports.
And in Paso Robles, $3.9 million will support the final construction phase of a project to rehabilitate 1,900 feet of Taxiway A, bringing a significant airfield improvement closer to completion.
The funding is part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program and is being announced by U.S. Senators Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla.
In all 51 California airports are slated to receive grants for projects ranging from runway rehabilitation and airport safety upgrades to noise mitigation, terminal improvements and passenger boarding bridges.
