The Santa Maria High School women’s golf team got new golf clubs thanks to the Southern California PGA foundation.
Girls golf team coach Jay Cheney said three girls on the team originally won a scholarship from the Southern California PGA Foundation and golf clubs of their own, but then the group asked if the team needed more clubs.
“When the representatives from Southern California PGA came up they were grinning ear to ear it was pretty exciting. I think if they could have carried them to each of their classes they would have,” Cheney said.
PGA gave them seven additional golf clubs each valued between $250 and $300.
The team was previously using men’s golf clubs for competition.
