Some Santa Maria businesses were evacuated Monday due to a reported gas leak.

Santa Maria police say they responded to reports of a construction worker drilling into the wrong location and hitting a gas line.

The area surrounding the former Fallas Discount Store along the 200 block of Town Center East was evacuated as a precaution and to allow crews to manage the leak.

Police said the closure has since been lifted.

No injuries were reported.
