UPDATE (8:45 p.m.) - Santa Maria police say the mom and her 6-year-old daughter were hit while walking in an unmarked crosswalk.

The girl has major injuries but is listed in stable condition. The mother also suffered major injuries but as of Friday night her condition is unknown.

Police say the driver in the crash remained on scene and is cooperating with law enforcement. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Two pedestrians, described as a mother and child, were hospitalized after being hit by a car in Santa Maria Friday morning.

According to Santa Maria police, the driver was heading northbound on Miller Street near Dena Way when they struck the pedestrians shortly after 7 a.m.

Their injuries are described as major.

Police say there are no indications this was a criminal act.

No other information was immediately available.
