The Pioneer Valley High School in Santa Maria kicked off its Link Crew freshman orientation on Friday, August 7, to welcome incoming students.
The student-led orientation paired more than 800 new students with upperclassmen for bonding and team-building activities.
To brighten up the occasion, student leaders dressed up in custom-made costumes as they gave campus tours to freshmen.
"When I walked in here and I saw a bunch of kids yelling at me, like clapping, – I saw my friends and I saw people that I know I've seen already, I felt a little less worried,” said incoming freshman Rafael Ramirez.
Following campus tours, students received their class schedules and were issued iPads for the year.
“Throughout the school year, Link Crew leaders will continue to engage with freshmen through regular check-ins, activities, and positive touchpoints designed to ensure students experience a smooth and successful transition from junior high to high school,” said Activity Director and Link Crew Advisor Jay Ewards.
This two-day orientation marks the 17th annual Link Crew event at Pioneer Valley High School, continuing the tradition of helping freshmen start their high school journey with confidence and connection.
