UPDATE: A shelter-in-place for the area has been lifted and the road is back open. Santa Maria Fire states crews were dispatched to the scene at around 8 a.m. when maintenance personnel at a facility along the 1300 block of La Brea reported an ammonia alarm sounding and believed it was in the equipment room.

Hazmat entered the building and was able to turn off the alarm. No one was in the building.

A shelter-in-place was issued after an engine was dispatched to an odor in the nearby area but was later lifted.

Fire officials say after about five hours, crews turned the facility back over to maintenance personnel for any repairs needed to the system.

No injuries were reported.
