The City of Santa Maria is now accepting sign-ups for its upcoming Youth NFL FLAG Football League.
The league will be open to kids ages 8–14 and will offer a six-game season focused on developing players' skills and teamwork in a fun and safe environment. Coed divisions will be available for the season.
NFL FLAG will follow a standard 5-on-5 format in which players will attempt to remove the hip flags from the ball carrier instead of tackling.
The season will begin on October 10 and play on six consecutive Saturdays through November 14.
Specific game times will be determined after registration closes and teams have formed, but most games will be in the morning. Games will most likely be held at Maramonte Park.
For those who want to sign up, the registration fee is $42 for City residents and $53 for non-City residents. Players will receive an official NFL FLAG team jersey, mouthguard, and flag belt.
Santa Maria is also seeking volunteer head coaches for the upcoming season. Head coaches must be at least 18 years old and complete all volunteer requirements by Thursday, August 27.
Eligible head coaches may receive one complimentary program registration for a participating child through the Head Coach Incentive Program. Those interested should reach out to the City Recreation and Parks Department directly.
