Young readers got a chance to meet the writers behind some of their favorite books in Santa Maria on Thursday.
The Santa Barbara County Education Office’s annual Author-Go-Round event brought together more than 350 students, from 5th to 8th grade, representing schools across the county.
Students had the opportunity to meet with the authors and illustrators of children's and young adult books. They also got to learn firsthand how stories are created.
"I like it," said 5th grader Ryan Lynn. "I think that it’s really exciting. The authors have a lot to say. Wendelin Van Draanen was really, really funny.”
"We all have different experiences, we have different families, we have different experiences that can either frighten you or make you super happy. I want them to realize that whatever happens to them, it can be put down on the page," said author Kathleen Contreras.
The Author-Go-Round event will continue through Friday, Jan. 30, in Santa Maria at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center.
