Senior righthander Lindsey Chalmers tossed her second complete-game victory against UC Davis in as many days as the Cal Poly softball program completed a three-game series versus the Aggies with a 6-1 victory at Bob Janssen Field.

After Chalmers (14-7) retired UC Davis in order during the top of the first after second baseman Isabella Leon lined into a double play, Cal Poly (19-19, 3-6) grabbed Sunday’s only lead at the first opportunity. Senior shortstop Chelsea Convissar dropped a triple down the right field line to lead off before senior center fielder Amanda Sandoval drew a four-pitch walk. Senior third baseman Stephanie Heyward then looped a base hit into right center field to plate Convissar for a 1-0 lead.

Cal Poly, meanwhile, ran its lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the third off of UC Davis reliever Katie Kibby. With one down, Heyward reached after her grounder skipped off the backside of Aggie shortstop Aly Gomonet’s glove. Junior right fielder Crimson Kaiser followed with a single before sophomore first baseman Hailey Martin (above) delivered a two-run double. Senior second baseman Alejandra Garcia followed with a run-scoring infield single before another Gomonet error on a bouncer from Mustang freshman left fielder Noelleh Ramos scored sophomore designated player Shelby Jeffries for Cal Poly’s fifth run.

Back in the circle, Chalmers set down UC Davis in order during the second. UC Davis (22-16, 4-5) produced two hits in the top of the third, but Chalmers stranded Aggies at the corner bases. UC Davis notched its lone run in the fifth after center fielder Alyse Rojas dropped a two-out single into center field to plate right fielder Frankie Mendoza.

The Mustangs cemented the scoreline in the bottom of the sixth after Sandoval brought home Convissar with a sacrifice fly.

Chalmers, a winner in 10 of her previous 14 starts, struck out two Aggies in Sunday’s 75-pitch effort.

Convissar and Heyward co-led Cal Poly with two hits apiece.

Cal Poly closes its six-game home stand with an April 21-22, three-game series versus CSUN. The series begins with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, April 21.
