The Arroyo Grande football team continued to prepare for the 2018 season on Monday afternoon.

The Eagles have made the switch from the CIF Southern Section to the Central Section and will be competing in Division 1.

AG will also be switching to the brand new Mountain League which features five teams, four of those coming from the historic PAC-5 League.

The Eagles finished second in the PAC-5 last season with a 3-1 record. They ended the season 7-4 after getting knocked out of the first round of the playoffs by Oaks Christian.

Mike Hartman is in his second year as head coach of AG, and he’s ready for the move to a new section and league.

"You know, I’m excited about new opportunities," Hartman said. "It’s always fun to go to new places and experience new traditions and new schools. Being in Division 1, that’s where Arroyo Grande should be in the Central Section. There’s some very, very, very good football teams but we’re not too bad ourselves. We’ll be just fine. "

"Nothing is really going to change for us," senior running back/linebacker James Gilmet. "We’re just going to go out, play AG football, get the job done, and we just want to take that first Mountain League title."

AG will travel to San Luis Obispo to open up the season on August 17. Kickoff is set for 7 P.M.
