St. Joseph High School is preparing for another solid football season while adapting a few changes to its program. The Knights welcome new head coach Pepe Villasenor while transition into a newly formed Mountain League in the CIF Central Section.

Last season, the Knights were led by interim head coach Jim Chvala, who led the team to the CIF Southern Section quarterfinals. The Knights lost to Paraclete, a team that ended up winning the Division 5 championship.

Despite the changes, Coach Villasenor says it doesn’t matter to him since it’s all new anyway. "Everything is obviously new for me and as well as the program," he said. "So truth of the matter is, we got to come to work each and every day regardless who we play. We focus on the next opponent. We don’t look at our league schedule or who we have week 3. Right now we’re focusing on the scrimmage and we take one day at a time."

"I just moved here this year so I’m just getting to know all my teammates. It’s a great team, great coaches, everything is good. We’re just working on the final form going so we can get ready to start play," said Chase Artopoeus, St. Joseph senior quarterback.

The Knights play a scrimmage against San Luis Obispo on Friday, August 10 and begin the season at Central Valley Christian on August 17.
