The Dos Pueblos High School football team is coming off a trip to the CIF Southern Section Division 10 championship game in 2017 where the Chargers fell to Quartz Hill, 26-21.
Dos Pueblos is the defending Channel League champions, going 4-0 during league play while finishing 12-2 overall.
The Chargers made a head coaching change during the offseason, shifting from Nate Mendoza to former Dos Pueblos assistant Doug Caines.
Dos Pueblos fell a half-yard away from a CIF title last year and Caines says his squad is using that as motivation heading into this season.
"Our rally cry in the weight room all year has been, ‘A half-yard will never stop us again.’ We came up a half-yard short," Caines said. "We can blame the ref for not blowing the whistle on the last play when our running back was driving his knees, but ultimately, we came up a half-yard short. To their credit, they finished and we didn’t. That’s been our rally cry, is that we’ll never be a half-yard short again."
Dos Pueblos starts the season by hosting Foothill on Friday, August 17. All of the Chargers’ home games will played at San Marcos High School since the Dos Pueblos field is under construction.
