Allan Hancock College football kicked off its season with a victory over L.A. Valley College and is now preparing for its home opener on Saturday against Ventura.
Despite coming off its best season in recent memory and finishing 8-2 overall while capturing its first conference championship in 20 years, the 26-14 season opener win marked head coach Kris Dutra’s 101 career victory. He surpasses Barney Eames for the most wins in program history.
"We’re very confident. It gets down to the players, getting the ball to the right guys at the right time, and being organized with those kind of things. At the end of the day, I think the confidence has leaked over into this group," Dutra said.
"We’re really hungry. Us sophomores are trying to get the freshman to understand the pain that we felt in that game," said Domanic Chapa, Allan Hancock sophomore safety. "If we could get back to that game, we’re trying to get a ring for sure."
Saturday’s home opener against Ventura kicks off at 2 p.m.
