Amaya Yebra of Pioneer Valley and Lompoc’s Jacob Nunez were named Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.
Yebra led the Panthers to two wins last week while adding 12 kills and 14 digs against Nipomo and 15 kills in a sweep over St. Joseph. Pioneer Valley is currently tied for first place in the Ocean League.
“Volleyball is a very competitive sport. You have to have a whole team to win. One person can’t bring a whole team to victory, so our team is really good,” Yebra said. “We have no problems with each other and we’re really communicative and talkative on the court and it helps us win.”
Braves junior tackle Jacob Nunez anchored the Braves offensive line that blocked for 450 yards of rushing against Dos Pueblos. Lompoc scored six rushing touchdowns during its 42-21 win.
“It was a real honor. Offense linemen don’t really win this award and it’s just a real honor that I’m one of the first and only,” Nunez said.
