Greyhounds hitting their stride at perfect time

Despite a slow start, the Atascadero softball team is hitting its stride at the most opportune time. With league play in full swing, the Greyhounds are undefeated against fellow Mountain League opponents. Last week, pitcher Bailey Doherty shut down Templeton, striking out 16 en route to a 7-0 shutout over the Eagles.

“We really don’t like to dwell on the past or look towards the future,” Doherty said. “We’re all about the present and playing every single pitch, every single play.”

The Greyhounds biggest test of the season comes Tuesday afternoon in San Luis Obispo. The Tigers currently sit just one game behind Atascadero in the Mountain League standings.

“We never think about being undefeated because every time we have been there has been that one game that we’ve lost,” Atascadero senior Taylor Herzig added. “Knowing that we’re just going in for that game helps us a lot rather than thinking of our future games.”
