Morro Bay High School announced the hiring of Alex Engel as the new head girls basketball coach on Monday morning.
Engel, a 2007 MBHS grad, has spent the last seven years as an assistant coach at the college level, six seasons at Cuesta and one season at Cal Poly.
Engel will take over a Pirates squad that finished 6-18 overall a season ago and last place in the Ocean League standings.
