Close to 200 participants are hitting the mat this week at Cal Poly for the 6th Annual Mustang Wrestling Camp.
The Cal Poly wrestling team will teach kids ranging from age 8-18, with most being in high school, but there is a beginner’s camp for those who are just getting started.
The 7-day camp is broken down into three 2-hour sessions each day, mostly filled with instruction and technique, but there are opportunities to wrestle live and put the acquired skills to the test.
“Our college guys do a great job with the kids,” Cal Poly head wrestling coach Jon Sioredas said. “They eat with the campers in the dining hall, instead of sitting with themselves. They’re walking them back and forth from the dorms, they hang out at night, they play ping pong with the guys. They’re really, really good with the campers.”
