High school cross country is back on the central coast. Atascadero High hosted Templeton on Friday afternoon for their first sporting even since March.
Student-athletes were excited and thankful to be back to work and competing again since nearly a year of not being able to.
"what really makes it special to me is less of the racing itself but it being my senior year and being able to employ the skills I've learned and source my energy to the people on my team and having everything come together. It's something I've been working for," Atascadero senior Bella Otter said.
Atascadero men's and women's cross country teams took the victory over Templeton this afternoon. There was so much excitment and energy at the meet as immediate family members of the student-athletes were able to attend.
Atascadero High school is one of the few programs in the area that has had fans at an event since cross country started this season.
Golf and tennis are set to being in a few weeks and as we move into less restrictive tiers, more sports will be able to come back.
