The Mission Prep girls basketball team fought until the end in the CIF-Central Section division two championship game, but the Royals fell short against San Joaquin Memorial, 79-53.
Prep's Kyra Harris cut the lead to just two with a strong drive and score at the end of the first quarter, and the Royals got red hot from beyond the arc in the second. However, after giving her squad a nine-point lead, Harris came down awkwardly on her ankle, and headed into the locker room for the remainder of the half. The Panthers capitalized as they finished the quarter on a 7-0 run, cutting the Royals' lead to just two at halftime.
The third quarter belonged to San Joaquin Memorial, as the Panthers outscored Mission Prep 31-12 over that 8-minute stretch.
With a top-two finish in the division, Mission Prep has qualified for the state playoffs.
