As the 9-seed, the St. Joseph boys basketball team will host their 2nd round game in the CIF State Championships Thursday night after the 16-seed, El Camino Real, knocked off the 1-seed, Shadow Hills, in the 1st round.
The Knights beat Bakersfield Tuesday night 54-43. The Drillers went unbeaten in their league during the regular season. Even though St. Joseph will face the lowest seed in their part of the bracket, the Knights aren't looking past this game.
"The opportunity to have a home game is something we weren't expecting, but it's something we're really grateful for," Tom Mott, head coach for the Knights, said. "El Camino Real is coming to town. Yes, they are the 16-seed, but that doesn't mean they are the 16th best team in Southern California."
"We took a tough loss last week in the semifinals, so we kind of built our confidence back up with this past win last night. We're coming to get it at practice more, hanging out, being together, coming in as a group, and really building off that," Steve Vasquez, a junior guard for the Knights, said.
